DMI reaffirms the quality of its training, celebrates the success of its graduates

The Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute (DMI) continues to cement its position as a leading centre of maritime studies in Tanzania and beyond, taking pride in the competence of its graduates who are excelling in various local and international institutions. 

These graduates have become a testament to the professionalism, discipline, and high-quality training offered by the institute.

Opening the Fourth Graduates’ Forum held at the DMI conference hall, the Institute’s Rector, Prof. Tumaini Gurumo, congratulated the graduates for reaching a significant academic milestone. 

He emphasized that their achievements stem from personal effort, discipline, and the strong academic foundation provided by DMI.

Prof. Gurumo highlighted that DMI has earned great respect within the East African region for delivering education that meets international standards and aligns with the current needs of the global maritime job market. 

He reminded graduates of the importance of continuous learning, noting that the maritime sector is rapidly evolving due to technological advancements and environmental changes.


Armed with the knowledge and skills gained at DMI, the institute’s graduates continue to shine in government institutions, shipping companies, private organizations, and various maritime operations worldwide demonstrating the lasting value and excellence of DMI’s training.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the DMI Alumni Association, Captain Grayson Marwa, stressed the importance of such forums in strengthening professional networks and providing meaningful input toward the development of the institute. 

He noted that the work experiences gained by alumni play a vital role in improving curricula and raising the quality of education offered.

Closing the forum, the Director of Auxiliary Services, Dr. Msabaha Mwendapole, expressed gratitude to all participants for their contributions to advancing maritime professions. 

He stated that collaboration between graduates and stakeholders is a key pillar in driving sustainable growth in the maritime sector.

Backed by its rich history and the accomplishments of its graduates, DMI remains a cornerstone in developing skilled human resources for the maritime industry, preparing experts capable of meeting current and future demands.
