Deputy Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Hamis Mwinjuma, has called on Tanzanians to turn out in large numbers to support Dar City Basketball Club as they represent the nation in the upcoming Road to BAL international tournament, set to begin on Friday, October 17, 2025.
Speaking during the team’s final preparations, Mwinjuma expressed his satisfaction with Tanzania’s growing presence in international basketball, saying the formation of a team that brings together both local and foreign players reflects the nation’s sporting progress and determination.
“It’s a great source of pride to see Tanzania stepping onto the global basketball stage. I encourage all Tanzanians to rally behind Dar City because their success is our national success,” said Mwinjuma.
On his part, Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila praised the team’s strong commitment and heavy investment including the recruitment of an experienced international coach and skilled foreign players.
Chalamila noted that basketball is still developing its fan base in Tanzania, and urged residents to attend the games and witness top-level competition at the International School of Tanganyika (IST).
“Basketball may not yet be the most popular sport in the country, but these games offer a perfect opportunity for fans to enjoy high-quality action and support our home team,” Chalamila added.
The Road to BAL tournament marks a crucial qualification stage for teams eyeing a spot in the prestigious Basketball Africa League (BAL) a continental championship jointly organized by FIBA Africa and the NBA.
