Young Africans SC (Yanga) has announced that its squad is fully prepared to face Bandari FC of Kenya in an international friendly match on September 12 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, marking the climax of the annual Wananchi Day celebrations.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam today, Yanga’s Media and Communication Officer, Ally Kamwe, assured fans that the team is in top shape and urged them to turn out in large numbers to support the club.

“Our squad is progressing well in training and the players are showing great commitment. The technical bench is also fully prepared. Now, it is up to our fans to come out in force and make Wananchi Day memorable,” Kamwe said.

He added that midfielder Celestin Ecua, who has been away on international duty with Chad, has pledged to join his teammates in time to take part in the preparations.

“He recognizes the significance of this day and has promised to do everything possible to rejoin the squad ahead of the match,” Kamwe explained.

In the run-up to the big game, Yanga has lined up several community and social responsibility activities.

On September 9, the club will host a blood donation drive at its headquarters on Twiga and Jangwani streets, where participants will also receive special tokens and refreshments.

The following day, September 10, club leaders and members will carry out a clean-up exercise in Kawe, which will include tree planting and special prayers for the club’s success in the 2025/26 season.

On September 11, Yanga officials and supporters will visit the Muhimbili National Hospital and various orphanages in Dar es Salaam to make donations and extend support to those in need. Ticket sales for the match are ongoing.

SportPesa’s Public Relations and Communication Officer, Jason Ndambala, also called on fans to seize the opportunity to rally behind Yanga and be part of the festivities.

“We are grateful to Yanga for allowing us to partner in this important event. We promise to give our full support throughout the week, and we encourage fans to attend in large numbers and register with SportPesa,” Ndambala said.

Wananchi Day is Yanga’s annual festival that brings together fans from across the country to celebrate the club’s heritage, unity, and sporting ambitions.

This year’s edition promises to blend football excitement with acts of charity and community service, strengthening the bond between the club and its supporters.
