Eighteen candidates have returned their nomination forms to contest various leadership positions in the forthcoming Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) general elections, set to take place on October 4 in Morogoro Region.

The Chairperson of the TOC Electoral Commission, Advocate Ibrahim Mkwawa, announced the names of candidates who passed the initial vetting process, confirming that three will vie for the presidency, one for the vice president, while 14 are seeking election as executive committee members from both Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.

He outlined the next steps in the election process, noting that submission of objections will be open for two days, followed by hearings scheduled for September 11–14.
“Once objections have been reviewed, the Commission will deliver its decisions on September 16,” said Advocate Mkwawa.

The presidential candidates include Henry Benny Tandau, Leonard Thadeo Katunzi (Mainland Tanzania), and Nassra Juma Mohammed (Zanzibar). Contesting the vice president is Suleiman Mahmoud Jabir (Zanzibar).

Those vying for membership seats from Mainland Tanzania are Devota John Marwa, Fatma Said Yassoda, Muharam Salum Machume, Khalid Yahya Rushaka, Donald Antony Massawe, Eliasa Abdallah Mkongo, Noorelain Gulamhussein Shariff, and Suma Stephen Mwaitenda.

From Zanzibar, the candidates are Mwatima Bakari Abdi, Suleiman Ame Khamis, Faida Salmin Juma, Makame Ali Machano, Juma Khamis Zaidy, and Abdul Rahman Said Simai.

The October elections are expected to usher in new leadership tasked with guiding TOC’s role in promoting Olympic values and strengthening Tanzania’s participation in international sporting events.
