Twende Pamoja na Mama Sport Promotion (TPMSPTZ) is joining forces with the Tanzania Netball Association (CHANETA) to organize the much-anticipated National Netball Premier League, set to kick off soon across Tanzania.

Speaking to The Respondent Online, TPMSPTZ Chief Executive Officer Kassim Ahmad highlighted that the partnership aims to bolster CHANETA’s mission to revive and grow netball, a sport that has long been overshadowed in the country’s sporting landscape.

The collaboration seeks to attract greater investment and involvement from stakeholders, similar to what has been seen in other popular sports disciplines.

“Our goal is to rejuvenate netball, which has been largely forgotten, and to demonstrate its potential so stakeholders can appreciate the value of investing in it. We are taking netball national with aspirations for it to excel not only locally but also on the international stage. We also plan to expand the league into regional areas to scout talents and build a strong national team that will proudly represent Tanzania worldwide,” said Ahmad.

He emphasized the importance of promoting netball across all regions of Tanzania and encouraging participation across genders to create competitive teams that carry the national identity with pride.

Meanwhile, the Sami Netball Cup tournament is currently in full swing at the Garden Magomeni grounds in Dar es Salaam, with teams fiercely competing.

JKT leads the standings with six points, level with Magereza but ahead on goal difference, while KIUT sits third with four points.

“At Twende Pamoja, our commitment is to elevate netball to new heights. We have already begun this journey, and we hope this growing momentum will inspire other stakeholders to come forward and support the sport’s development,” Ahmad added.

Lilian Mahalu, Public Relations Officer at TPMSPTZ, noted an encouraging surge in interest. “Initially, the response was modest, but as the tournament progresses, the competition is intensifying, fresh talents are emerging, and more teams are showing keen interest in participating,” she said.

Pili Mogella, Chairman of the Dar es Salaam Netball Association (CHANEDA), remarked that the ongoing competitions will serve as a critical platform for selecting the regional team that will compete in upcoming national and international events. He expressed optimism about the rising skill levels among young players.

“I am truly thrilled to see the enthusiasm and the increasing standards among our players. The sport is gaining momentum, and we are witnessing the rise of new talents and stronger performances from the youth,” said Mogella.

From the players’ camp, KIUT’s Najma Isack expressed confidence and high hopes for the championship. “Our aim is to win the title and secure the five million Tanzanian shillings prize. The competition is tough, with every team well-prepared, but we are determined to perform even better,” she said.

“We are fully committed to victory. We have come with the determination to excel and bring home the championship trophy,” Najma concluded.
