RC Malisa urges mining staff to improve income and participation

Mbeya Regional Commissioner Beno Malisa has called on employees of the Mining Commission’s Southern Highlands Zone to actively seek legal and innovative ways to uplift their economic well-being, urging them not to settle for a standard of living that fails to reflect the national importance of their profession.

Speaking in Kyela District over the weekend during a prize-giving ceremony for winners of a regional bonanza organized by the Mining Commission, Mr Malisa said civil servants working in strategic sectors such as mining must think beyond their job titles and actively strive to grow financially in legitimate ways.

“You carry a big name and work in a high-impact sector that contributes significantly to the economy. That name must be matched by personal development. Don’t settle. Seek opportunities that are lawful and ethical to improve your income and quality of life,” he told the gathering.

The sporting event brought together employees from six regions that form the Southern Highlands Zone of the Mining Commission.

Mr Malisa used the platform to encourage civil servants to use such public gatherings to raise awareness among citizens about their civic responsibility to vote in the October General Election.

“Let’s take advantage of these platforms to remind Tanzanians that voting is not just a right, it is a duty. Through the ballot, citizens have the power to shape the leadership they want,” he said.

The Regional Commissioner also commended the Commission for surpassing its revenue collection targets for the just-ended financial year.

He urged them to continue supporting the Sixth Phase Government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, particularly in boosting domestic revenues and delivering essential services to the public.

“I commend the Mining Commission for exceeding targets. Keep the momentum. Your work is critical in helping the government build a strong, inclusive, and self-reliant economy,” he added.

Kyela District Commissioner Josephine Manase also expressed her appreciation to the Commission for choosing Matema Beach as the venue for the bonanza. She said the event had contributed positively to the local economy by boosting small businesses.

“Hosting the bonanza here created income-generating opportunities for many residents. It’s a reminder that public sector events can drive real economic benefits to host communities,” she said.

The bonanza, which combined sports, networking, and community interaction, was seen as part of broader efforts to enhance teamwork among staff while reinforcing the role of civil service in national development.
