The Conservation Commissioner of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), Mr. Abdul-razak Badru, has urged staff at the Mbozi Meteorite Heritage Centre in Songwe Region to remain committed and work with renewed energy to transform the site into a significant tourism and economic hub for Tanzania.

During his official visit to the site, Mr. Badru commended ongoing government efforts spearheaded by NCAA to elevate the profile of the centre.

He pointed to the recent construction of a state-of-the-art museum building and the installation of culturally rich exhibitions that highlight the traditions of communities from the Southern Highlands.

These efforts, he said, are aimed at positioning the site as a major contributor to national development through heritage tourism.

“The government has invested heavily in improving this site. Your dedication is critical to ensuring these investments bear fruit,” Mr. Badru told staff during his address.

“With strategic promotion and continued improvements, Mbozi Meteorite Centre has the potential to become a major source of revenue for both the government and local communities.”he added

He added that NCAA is committed to further enhancing the site’s infrastructure to attract more local and international visitors.

Providing an update on the centre’s performance, Senior Conservation Officer and Site Manager, Mr. Andrew Lowasa, reported that the centre received a total of 2,525 visitors both domestic and foreign during the 2024/2025 financial year.

Mr. Badru’s visit to Mbozi is part of a broader inspection tour of cultural and archaeological heritage sites managed by NCAA outside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

The tour aims to assess site performance, identify opportunities for growth, and ensure that Tanzania’s cultural heritage continues to serve as a pillar for sustainable tourism and economic empowerment.
