Dodoma Basketball officials banned for two years over match-fixing

The Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) has imposed a two-year ban on officials from the Dodoma Regional Basketball Association (DORBA), the women’s team technical staff, and players following allegations of match-fixing during the CRDB Taifa Cup semi-final.

TBF Secretary General Mwenza Kabinda said the disciplinary action follows a detailed investigation that confirmed deliberate manipulation of match results during the women’s semi-final between Dodoma and Dar es Salaam, played on July 3, 2025, at Chinangali Grounds in Dodoma.

"The Executive Committee acted after receiving a report from the tournament commissioner and the competition committee, which provided credible evidence of misconduct during the match," Kabinda said.

The individuals affected by the ban include DORBA Chairman Emmanuel Mushi, Secretary General Augustine Makula, head coach Adam Msafiri Harenga, technical staff members Romanus Anania and Ali Issa Buluba, the team doctor, the statistician, and all players of the Dodoma women’s team.

Kabinda confirmed that the ban, effective from July 3, 2025, prohibits all those involved from participating in any basketball-related activities within or outside the country for two years.

"TBF strongly upholds the values of fair play and integrity in sports. We will not tolerate any actions that compromise the credibility of the game," he emphasized.

He further warned that any individual, team, or regional association found tarnishing the image of sponsors or the integrity of tournaments under TBF's jurisdiction will face similar disciplinary measures.

This decisive action by TBF sends a strong message about the federation’s zero-tolerance stance on unethical conduct and its commitment to protecting the integrity of basketball in Tanzania.
