Preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) gained momentum on June 24, 2025, as organizing committees from Tanzania and Kenya held a high-level planning meeting in Dar es Salaam.
The meeting took place at King Jada Hotel and was jointly chaired by Mr. Leodegar Tenga, Chairperson of the CHAN 2024 Organizing Committee for Tanzania, and Mr. Nicholas Musonye, his counterpart from Kenya.
The session brought together key officials from both countries to coordinate efforts and lay the groundwork for a successful tournament.
Discussions focused on several critical elements, including the development of a joint tournament website, the composition of an official theme song, the creation of a tournament mascot, and the planning of both the opening and closing ceremonies.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr. Tenga emphasized the importance of collaboration between the host nations, saying, “We are committed to delivering a world-class event that reflects the spirit of African football and the strong partnership between Tanzania and Kenya.”
CHAN 2024 is scheduled to kick off in August 2025, with Tanzania hosting the opening ceremony and early matches, while Kenya will host the closing ceremony and final stages of the competition.
This shared hosting model is expected to strengthen regional cooperation and broaden the tournament’s impact across East Africa.
Mr. Musonye added that the joint preparations are a symbol of unity and ambition: “Our goal is to create a unique and memorable experience for players, fans, and the entire continent. This will not just be a football tournament, but a celebration of African identity and talent.”
The CHAN tournament, organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), features national teams made up exclusively of players who compete in their home countries' domestic leagues.
The 2024 edition will mark a significant milestone, being jointly hosted by two East African nations for the first time.
