President Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed Mr. Raymond Mweli as the new District Executive Director (DED) for Mbarali District Council in Mbeya Region.

The appointment was announced on June 23 through a statement issued by the Communication Directorate at State House.

Prior to his new post, Mr. Mweli served as the District Administrative Secretary (DAS) for Kaliua District in Tabora Region since March 2024.

His tenure was characterised by a firm commitment to good governance, fairness, and the rule of law, qualities that earned him admiration among civil servants and residents alike.

Mr. Mweli played a pivotal role in overseeing key development initiatives, particularly the flagship Building a Better Tomorrow (BBT) programme, which aims to empower youth and women in the agriculture sector. His leadership was also instrumental in ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of strategic public projects.

Reacting to his departure, several local stakeholders in Kaliua praised Mr. Mweli for his inclusive leadership style and his ability to foster cooperation across different levels of government and the community.

He is succeeded in Kaliua by Mr. Sosthenes Chakupanyuka, who now assumes the role of District Administrative Secretary. Mr. Chakupanyuka is expected to build on the progress made under Mweli’s leadership and sustain the district’s development momentum.

Mr. Mweli’s appointment to Mbarali comes at a critical time, as the government intensifies efforts to improve service delivery and accelerate local economic growth. His extensive administrative experience is anticipated to strengthen governance and development planning in the district.

The changes are part of ongoing government reforms aimed at enhancing performance and accountability within local government authorities across the country.
