Starting July 1, 2025, Regional Commissioners across Tanzania will hold media briefings to report on development achievements in their regions with a view to improve transparency and keep the public informed about government progress.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports and Government Chief Spokesperson, Gerson Msigwa, announced the plan during a press briefing in Dar es Salaam on June 29, 2025.
He said the briefings will highlight activities carried out under President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s leadership.
Mr. Msigwa explained that the Government Communication Department (MAELEZO) has organized these sessions following similar meetings with ministers and heads of institutions. The new round focuses on Regional Commissioners.
The media briefings will take place in Dodoma from July 1 to July 18, 2025. The schedule begins with the Kagera Regional Commissioner on July 1, followed by Katavi on July 3, Singida on July 4, and Geita on July 9. Other regions on the list include Arusha, Tabora, Shinyanga, Tanga, Simiyu, and Mwanza.
These sessions will be broadcast live on Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC), various radio and television stations, and streamed on social media channels such as Maelezo TV. This ensures wide accessibility for all citizens.
Mr. Msigwa urged people to follow the live coverage and learn about government achievements in their local areas. He also called on Regional Administrative Secretaries to ensure full regional participation according to the schedule.
Before the briefings, MAELEZO teams visited the selected regions to document development projects. They collected photos, videos, and conducted interviews with beneficiaries.
The content will be shared through multiple media platforms to showcase real impacts on the ground.
This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and involving citizens in tracking national development.
