The Tanzania Chess Association (TACA) has announced that the National Chess Championship will take place from July 5 to 7, 2025, at the Russian Cultural Centre in Dar es Salaam.
According to TACA’s Public Relations Officer, Mussa Mangula, the primary goal of the championship is to promote the growth and recognition of chess in the country, especially among the youth, by giving them more exposure through competitive matches.
“This event will not only help us nurture the sport and raise awareness about it across Tanzania but will also serve as a platform to select players who will represent the national team in upcoming international tournaments,” Mangula said.
He added that preparations are already underway, and registration is currently open for interested participants. Each player is required to pay a participation fee of TZS 20,000.
Mangula emphasized that the association is calling on players from across the country to register in large numbers to increase the level of competition at this year’s edition.
“We are thankful to the stakeholders who have supported us so far, but we still welcome more partners and sponsors who are passionate about promoting chess and youth talent in Tanzania,” he said.
Prize money will be awarded to top performers in both the men's and women's categories. For the Open (Men’s) category, the top winner will receive TZS 500,000, the second-place winner will take home TZS 400,000, third place will earn TZS 300,000, fourth TZS 200,000, and fifth TZS 100,000.
In the Open Women’s category, the first-place winner will receive TZS 250,000, second place TZS 200,000, third TZS 150,000, fourth TZS 100,000, and fifth TZS 80,000.
The championship is expected to attract a wide range of players from various regions, aiming to not only compete for titles and cash prizes but also earn a chance to don national colors in international events.
