Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has awarded TSh100 million to Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga SC) in recognition of the club’s exceptional performance during the 2024/25 season.

President Mwinyi made the announcement when he hosted the club’s leadership and players at State House in Zanzibar, where they presented him with the five trophies won this season across various competitions.

Speaking during the event, Dr Mwinyi applauded Yanga’s achievements, describing them as a testament to the club’s commitment and discipline, which have helped raise the profile of Tanzanian football.

“Your success this season is not only a victory for Yanga but also a proud moment for our entire nation,” he said.

He commended the club for continuing to promote Zanzibar through the Visit Zanzibar campaign, noting that hosting matches on the islands has played a key role in boosting the tourism sector and the broader economy.

“The decision to play games in Zanzibar has increased visitor numbers and created business opportunities for our people,” said Dr Mwinyi.

The Head of State also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving sports infrastructure in the Isles to attract more national and international competitions.

“We will continue strengthening our sports facilities so that Zanzibar can host more matches and tournaments,” he said.

On behalf of the club, Yanga SC President and Chairperson of the African Football Clubs Association, Eng. Hersi Said Ali, thanked Dr Mwinyi for his unwavering support of the sports sector.

He presented the President with a commemorative CRDB Federation Cup medal and a championship jersey from the NBC Premier League. He also pledged the club’s continued presence in Zanzibar, promising more matches to be held on the islands.

Yanga SC capped off the 2024/25 season by winning five trophies: the NBC Community Shield, the Toyota Cup, the Union Cup, the NBC Premier League title, and the CRDB Federation Cup.
