Mwanza, Simiyu crowned volleyball champions at UMITASHUMTA 2025

Mwanza and Simiyu have emerged as the volleyball champions of the 2025 UMITASHUMTA Games  the national Union of Sports and Academics for Primary Schools in Tanzania  which concluded yesterday in Iringa Region.

In the boys’ competition, Mwanza secured the national title after a commanding 3-0 win over Katavi in the finals. 

Katavi took second place, while Mbeya finished third. In the girls’ category, Simiyu claimed the championship by defeating Mwanza in straight sets (3-0), making them the 2025 national champions, with Mwanza earning the runner-up spot.

Speaking after the tournament, Mwanza boys' head coach Aziz Mabele attributed their success to thorough preparation and strategic investment in youth sports development. 

He also praised the girls' team for their strong performance, finishing second in a highly competitive field.

“This year’s tournament was very competitive, especially in the girls’ matches,” Mabele told The Respondent Online. “Simiyu is a well-coached and talented team, and they truly pushed us hard in the finals.”

“We’re grateful to God for how far we've come. I want to congratulate our players — reaching the finals in both categories and taking home the boys' title is no small feat. Our next goal is to return stronger and aim to win both titles next year,” he said.

Mabele also extended his appreciation to Mwanza’s leadership and supporters who stood behind the team. 

He called on stakeholders to continue supporting young athletes as they pursue excellence in both sports and academics.
