Dar es Salaam - Caeser Hans Poppe, CEO of Z. H. Poppe Limited, and his son Adam Caeser
HansPoppe surrendered to the High Court at the Integrated Justice Centre (IJC)
in Temeke, Dar es Salaam, following a court order for their arrest on contempt
charges.
The court's decision stemmed from
their failure to present a comprehensive inventory of assets collected by their
company in the probate case of the late Zacharia Hans Poppe (Case No.
177/2022).
On July 5, 2024, Justice Glady’s Nancy
ordered their arrest after they failed to appear in court to provide a detailed
report of the deceased's assets, including financial statements. The Poppe duo,
both directors in the late Zacharia Hans Poppe's companies, were supposed to
account for the estate's assets, but their absence led to the arrest order.
Appearing in court on Wednesday, July
24, 2024, Caeser and Adam requested the court to rescind the arrest order,
arguing that their voluntary appearance should nullify the contempt charges.
Their legal team, led by Peter Kibatala with support from Alphonce Nachipiangu,
Gloria Ulomi, and Rebecca Lyaka of Tan Law Africa, successfully petitioned
Justice Barthy to lift the arrest order. The judge instructed the directors and
the estate administrators to appear in court on the next scheduled date, August
20, 2024, without fail.
The case was initially brought before
the court by Angel and Abel, children of the late Zacharia Hans Poppe and
administrators of his estate, seeking an accounting of the assets held by Z. H.
Poppe Ltd., managed by Caeser and Adam.
Representing Analisa Zacharia Poppe,
the eldest child, attorney Regina Helman called for Caeser and Adam to disclose
the estate’s financial status and management, accusing them of excluding the
rightful heirs from the company's affairs.
The petition for arrest was supported
by attorney Emmanuel Msengezi, representing the estate administrators Angel and
Abel. Msengezi highlighted that Zacharia Hans Poppe owned 90% of the company
shares, while Caeser held only 10%. The legal dispute arose after Zacharia's
death on September 10, 2021, at Aga Khan Hospital, with his funeral held on
September 15, 2021, in Iringa.
Zacharia Hans Poppe, a prominent
member of Simba Sports Club, was remembered for his significant contributions
to the club, particularly in his role as chairman of the Friends of Simba group
and the club's recruitment committee.
