Yanga and Gaborone United face a decisive 90 minutes tomorrow when they meet at Azam Complex in Chamazi, with the winner securing a place in the next stage of the CAF Champions League.
The two sides remain evenly matched after a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Botswana, leaving the tie finely poised ahead of the return match in Dar es Salaam.
Yanga will be looking to make home advantage count as they seek to continue their continental campaign, while Gaborone United arrive determined to frustrate the hosts and secure a positive result.
Yanga coach Manqoba Mngqithi said his team was aware of the threat posed by the Botswana side after seeing first-hand their ability to create chances in the opening encounter.
“They are a strong team, but we have prepared to deal with them and get a positive result,” Mngqithi said.
He said Yanga had focused their preparations on correcting weaknesses exposed in the first leg, particularly the space and time given to their opponents.
“We have worked on different areas that emerged in the first match, especially the issue of space and time,” he said.
Yanga midfielder Selemani Mwalimu described the match as crucial, saying the players were determined to produce a winning performance and book their place in the next round.
Gaborone United coach Sean Connor expects a difficult contest, citing Yanga’s squad depth, technical quality and home advantage.
“We expect a good, difficult and competitive game because Yanga have a very good squad, a good coach and quality players,” Connor said.
He, however, said his team was prepared for the challenge and would fight for a result that would keep them in the competition.
Gaborone United captain Lebogang Ditsele said the team had learned from the first leg and was ready for the decisive encounter.
“We have put the mistakes from the previous match behind us. Our focus is now on this game and getting the result we need to progress,” he said.
With the aggregate score level, neither side has an advantage going into the return leg, setting the stage for a high-stakes battle in which 90 minutes could determine who keeps their Champions League journey alive.
