The Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) has won the top award at the 21st East African Trade Exhibition, emerging as the best public agency, corporation or institution at the regional business showcase.
WMA was presented with a trophy and certificate after being declared the overall winner in its category during the official opening of the exhibition at Furahisha Grounds in Mwanza on September 3, 2026.
The award recognises the agency’s participation and efforts to showcase its services and promote awareness of accurate measurement standards among traders, businesses and consumers.
Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade Denis Londo, who represented Minister Judith Kapinga, was the guest of honour at the opening ceremony.
Speaking on behalf of WMA’s Chief Executive Officer after receiving the award, Director of Support Services Christopher Mwakibinga said the achievement belonged to the public and stakeholders who had supported the agency throughout the exhibition.
“This award belongs to our citizens and stakeholders. From the first day, they have visited our stand in large numbers, asked questions, offered suggestions aimed at improving our measurement services and congratulated us on the work we are doing,” he said.
Mr Mwakibinga said the recognition was a major honour for WMA and would motivate its staff to strengthen the delivery of reliable and quality measurement services across the country.
He urged members of the public and business community to continue visiting the WMA stand during the exhibition, which runs until September 6.
The East African Trade Exhibition provides a platform for public institutions and private-sector players to showcase products and services, engage consumers and promote trade and investment opportunities across the region.
