Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi has expressed condolences to Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi following the death of Mama Fatma Karume, widow of Zanzibar’s first President, the late Sheikh Abeid Amani Karume.
In a message issued following her death, Mr Ndejembi extended condolences to Dr Mwinyi, the Karume family, the people of Zanzibar and all Tanzanians mourning the loss.
He said the death had left a significant void, offering prayers for comfort and strength to the bereaved family and others affected by the loss.
“During this difficult period of grief and mourning, I pray that all those who have lost their loved one receive comfort, patience and strength to endure the great void left by her death,” Mr Ndejembi said.
He also prayed for the soul of Mama Fatma Karume to rest in peace and asked God to give patience to those affected by the death.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,” he said.
Mama Fatma Karume was the widow of Sheikh Abeid Amani Karume, who became Zanzibar’s first President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council after the 1964 Zanzibar Revolution.
