Tanzania will host a major Commonwealth tax administration meeting in Arusha next month, bringing together tax officials from 48 member countries to discuss how technology can improve revenue collection and taxpayer compliance.
The 46th meeting of the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators (CATA) will take place from October 5 to 9, 2026, with discussions expected to focus on emerging technologies, tax administration reforms and international cooperation.
The meeting will be held under the theme “Leveraging Technology for Efficient Revenue Collection.”
The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), which will host the meeting, said the forum will provide an opportunity for member countries to exchange experiences and examine ways technology can make tax systems more efficient.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy Deogratius John Ndejembi is expected to officially open the meeting.
According to TRA, one of the key areas of discussion will be the use of artificial intelligence and other technologies to improve tax administration while reducing the compliance burden on taxpayers.
The meeting will also address cooperation in tackling tax evasion and illicit financial flows, issues that can affect government revenues and economic development.
For Tanzania, the meeting offers an opportunity to showcase its experience in tax collection and learn from other Commonwealth administrations as the country seeks to strengthen domestic revenue mobilisation.
TRA said the gathering will also expose participants to Tanzania's investment and business environment, while creating opportunities for wider economic engagement among participating countries.
The authority has invited members of the public, businesses and other stakeholders to follow information on the meeting through its official communication channels.
The CATA meeting comes as tax administrations globally increasingly adopt digital systems and data-driven approaches to improve compliance, widen the tax base and make revenue collection more effective.
