Two security guards at Mtibwa Sugar Estate were injured after they were allegedly attacked while trying to remove cattle found grazing in the sugarcane fields, police said.
The incident occurred on September 23, 2026, at about noon in the D6 area of the estate in Mtibwa Ward, Turiani Division, Mvomero District.
Morogoro Regional Police Commander ACP Andrew Kantimbo said the guards had rounded up a herd of cattle and were driving them towards Dumila One Camp, owned by the sugar company, for identification and further action.
The exercise was disrupted when livestock keepers allegedly confronted the guards and attacked them with machetes, clubs and sticks, according to the police.
The injured guards were identified as Sayuni Ndika Nemes, 25, and Sanula Masaga Msabila, 36, both employees of Mtibwa Sugar Company in Turiani.
Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the attack: Sisone Lugaso Ndabali, 20, Taturo Tetetea Shangalima, 28, and Likua Kaika Ndikila, 21, all residents of Kambala Village in Mkindo Ward, Mvomero.
Commander Kantimbo urged livestock keepers to stop allowing their animals to enter farmers' fields and warned against taking the law into their own hands.
He called on people with grievances to use established legal and administrative procedures to seek redress rather than resorting to violence.
