Tanzania and the United States have renewed their commitment to deepen economic cooperation, with investment opportunities in health, agriculture, energy, mining, infrastructure, education and tourism identified as key areas for closer engagement.
The commitment was made during a meeting between Deputy Minister for Finance Laurent Luswetula and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs Erin Browne in Nairobi, Kenya.
The talks were held on the sidelines of a high-level dialogue of finance ministers focused on strengthening joint investment in the health sector.
Mr Luswetula invited US companies and investors to take advantage of opportunities available in Tanzania, particularly in sectors with potential to support economic growth and create jobs.
He also thanked the US government for its continued partnership with Tanzania and its contribution to the country's development since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1968.
According to the deputy minister, the longstanding partnership has contributed to Tanzania's efforts to advance social and economic development and reduce poverty.
Ms Browne said the US would continue working with Tanzania in various development areas while seeking to strengthen and expand the existing partnership.
The two sides also discussed the importance of increasing economic cooperation and investment between the two countries, with the ultimate goal of creating greater benefits for their citizens.
The renewed focus on investment comes as Tanzania seeks to attract more capital into productive sectors, expand private-sector participation and create opportunities that can contribute to jobs, business growth and improved public services.
