Tanzania’s industrialisation drive has received a boost from a more than TZS600 billion investment in ceramic and glass manufacturing, with the facility producing over 1,000 tonnes of products a day and employing more than 3,000 Tanzanians.
The investment by Keda, based in Mkuranga, Coast Region, was highlighted during a visit by Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade) director general Ephraim Balozi Mafuru on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
Mr Mafuru said the scale of production demonstrated the potential of local manufacturing to expand domestic supply, create jobs and increase the value of goods produced in Tanzania.
The visit was part of TanTrade’s efforts to engage businesses involved in production and investment, understand the challenges they face and identify ways of expanding markets for locally manufactured goods.
“We want to strengthen cooperation with manufacturers and help them access wider markets, including regional and international markets,” TanTrade said in a statement.
Keda manufactures ceramic and glass products, sectors that can contribute to reducing reliance on imported products while creating opportunities for employment and industrial supply chains.
TanTrade said it would continue working with Keda and other manufacturers to expand market opportunities locally and abroad, including linking producers with trade platforms and exhibitions.
The authority also plans to promote the use and competitiveness of products made in Tanzania as part of efforts to increase domestic sales and exports.
The engagement comes as Tanzania seeks to deepen industrial production and attract investment capable of creating jobs and expanding the country’s productive capacity.
TanTrade said stronger links between manufacturers and markets would help increase sales of locally produced goods, boost exports, attract further investment and strengthen the contribution of manufacturing to economic growth.
