Tanzania head coach has named a provisional squad for Taifa Stars as the team begins preparations for its 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.
The squad will prepare for Group L qualifying matches against Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar, as well as an international friendly against Ghana.
Azam FC has the largest representation in the provisional squad, with nine players called up, including goalkeeper Aishi Manula, Zuber Foba, Lameck Lawi, Twalib Nuru, Pascal Msindo, Himid Mao, Feisal Salum, Abdurkarim Kiswanya and Abdul Seleman.
Simba SC has seven players in the squad: Vedastus Masinde, Bakari Msimu, Nickson Kibabage, Antony Mligo, Nathaniel Chilambo, Morice Abraham and Yusuph Kagoma.
Young Africans (Yanga) have six representatives Ibrahim Bacca, Bakari Mwamnyeto, Mohammed Mussa, Mohammed Hussein, Hussein Masalanga and Selemani Mwalimu while JKT Tanzania is represented by Paul Peter.
The squad also features a number of Tanzanian players based abroad, underlining the coach’s wider selection pool ahead of the qualifiers.
Among them are Mohammed Sagaf of England’s Eastbourne Borough, Alphonce Mmombwa of Algeria’s JS Kabylie and Tarryn Allarakhia of Boreham Wood in England.
Other foreign-based players named are Simon Msuva, who plays in Iraq; Kelvin John of Denmark’s Aalborg; Kibu Denis of Libya’s Al-Nasr; Cyripin Kachwele of Canada’s HFX Wanderers; Novatus Miroshi of Turkish club Göztepe; and Adolph Mtasingwa.
Tanzania has been drawn in Group L alongside Nigeria, Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau in the race for places at the 2027 AFCON finals.
The upcoming matches are expected to provide the technical bench with an opportunity to assess the squad and fine-tune preparations ahead of the competitive qualifiers.
