The Rural Energy Agency (REA) has been recognised by the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) as one of the country’s top public-sector taxpayers for the 2025/26 financial year, highlighting its compliance with tax laws and payment procedures.
REA received the Top Taxpayer Certificate for Public Institutions during an award ceremony in Dodoma, where the TRA recognised institutions that demonstrated strong compliance with tax requirements during the financial year.
The recognition reflects REA’s adherence to tax laws and regulations in carrying out its activities, including the implementation of rural energy projects across Tanzania.
Speaking during the ceremony, TRA Deputy Commissioner for Operations in the Large Taxpayers Department, Ms Eva Raphael, said the recognition was intended to acknowledge institutions that had demonstrated a high level of compliance with tax laws and procedures during the 2025/26 financial year.
She urged public institutions to maintain the standards and ensure taxes are paid on time, saying timely tax payments contribute to national development.
“Institutions should continue complying with legal requirements and ensure taxes are paid on time,” Ms Raphael said.
For REA, the recognition adds to the agency’s responsibilities in implementing government-backed programmes aimed at expanding access to electricity and other energy services in rural areas.
REA said the award demonstrates its commitment to accountability and compliance with legal requirements while implementing energy projects.
The ceremony brought together finance directors, chief accountants and other officials from finance departments of various public institutions.
The agency's recognition comes as Tanzania continues to invest in expanding energy infrastructure, particularly in rural communities where improved access to electricity is expected to support households, businesses and public services.
