President Samia thanks Tanzanians for support after husband’s death

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has thanked Tanzanians and people around the world for their messages of condolence, prayers and support following the death of her husband, Hafidh Ameir Hassan.

Mr Hassan died in Zanzibar on September 7, 2026, prompting messages of sympathy from across Tanzania and beyond.

In a message issued as the three-day mourning period came to an end, President Samia said the support extended to her and her family had provided strength and comfort as they mourned their loss.

She expressed particular appreciation to Heads of State and Government, national leaders, members of the diplomatic community, religious leaders and Tanzanians who stood with her family during the difficult period.

“The love, support, messages of condolence and prayers received from Tanzania and around the world have deeply touched me and my family,” the President said.

She said the kindness and compassion shown by the public had helped her family cope with the loss as they observed the mourning period.

President Samia also thanked religious leaders and others who offered prayers and condolences following Mr Hassan’s death.

The President’s message came as she and her family concluded three days of mourning for her husband, who died in Zanzibar on September 7.
