More than 150 swimmers are expected to battle for honours in the National Open Swimming Championships, which begin tomorrow at the Monti International School swimming pool in Dar es Salaam.
The two-day championships have attracted swimmers from 13 clubs, with the Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) saying the event will provide a platform for athletes to test their progress and improve their competitive times.
TSA Director of Education and Development Jeremiah Kaema said preparations for the championships were 90 percent complete, with the remaining arrangements expected to be finalised as participating swimmers arrive.
“The response has been good, with many young swimmers turning up. We expect to achieve 100 percent of our objectives and get the results we are looking for,” Kaema said.
Kaema said the competition would allow swimmers to assess themselves in key areas including speed, stamina and technique, while giving them an opportunity to set new personal bests.
He said strong performances at the championships would also help swimmers prepare for future international competitions.
The official urged swimming stakeholders and fans to turn up and support the competitors, particularly the young swimmers seeking to improve their times.
The championships will conclude on Sunday.
