Ngorongoro Ward made a flying start to the Rhino Cup after thrashing Kakesio Ward 6-0 in an emphatic opening match at Makao Primary School grounds in Ngorongoro District.
Ngorongoro controlled the match from the opening whistle, putting the Kakesio defence under sustained pressure and creating chances at regular intervals.
Their dominance was reflected on the scoreboard as they found the back of the net in both halves, leaving Kakesio with little room to respond.
The result triggered loud celebrations among Ngorongoro supporters, who turned out in numbers to back their side.
The Rhino Cup is sponsored by the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), with the tournament bringing together teams representing wards in Ngorongoro District.
Beyond the sporting competition, the tournament is also offering an added incentive to participating teams, with the eventual winners set to receive, among other prizes, an opportunity to watch the high-profile Simba-Yanga derby.
The tournament is expected to provide a platform for local players to showcase their talent while using football to strengthen community participation and interaction.
