The Chairperson of the Public Service Commission, retired Judge Hamisa Kalombola, has urged employees of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) to uphold integrity, professionalism and accountability in carrying out their duties.
She said adherence to public service ethics was essential for maintaining public trust and ensuring government institutions served the wider national interest.
Retired Judge Kalombola made the remarks during a meeting with NCAA employees held as part of the commission's efforts to remind public servants of their rights, responsibilities and ethical obligations.
She said public service was a responsibility that required employees to perform their duties honestly and professionally while putting the interests of the country ahead of personal considerations.
“Each one of us has a responsibility to do our part to build an efficient and trustworthy public service,” she said.
The former Judge Kalombola also urged employees to safeguard government information, demonstrate patriotism and maintain integrity in the execution of their responsibilities.
She said observing confidentiality was particularly important for public servants entrusted with government information and responsibilities.
The meeting formed part of the Public Service Commission's oversight role, which includes assessing whether public institutions comply with laws, regulations and procedures governing public service.
Commission Secretary Nolasco Kipanda said the commission would continue conducting inspections in public institutions and agencies to assess compliance with public service laws, regulations and ethical standards.
He said the inspections were intended to strengthen accountability and identify areas requiring improvement in the management of public servants.
NCAA Deputy Conservation Commissioner Joas Makwati said the authority would act on the guidance issued by the commission and work to address issues identified during inspections.
He said NCAA would strengthen its internal systems to ensure there were no outstanding audit issues relating to human-resource management and other areas under its operations.
The engagement comes as public institutions face growing pressure to demonstrate accountability in the management of public resources and delivery of services.
For NCAA, maintaining high standards of conduct among its employees is particularly important given its responsibility for managing one of Tanzania's key conservation and tourism areas.
The commission's message was therefore not only about compliance with public service rules, but also about ensuring that employees entrusted with public responsibilities act in a manner that protects the credibility of the institution and the interests of the country.
