African Union (AU) Special Envoy for Women, Peace and Security, Ambassador Liberata Mulamula, has expressed condolences following the death of Mama Fatuma Karume, widow of Zanzibar’s first President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, the late Sheikh Abeid Amani Karume.
Ambassador Mulamula said she received the news with deep sadness, extending her condolences to the bereaved family, relatives, government leaders and all those mourning her death.
“It is very sad news because I had the opportunity to see her not long ago. May Almighty God rest her soul in eternal peace,” Ambassador Mulamula said.
Mama Fatuma’s death was announced by President Samia Suluhu Hassan in a condolence message issued following her death.
