Simba head coach Steve Barker has warned his players against complacency, saying their CAF Champions League preliminary-round tie against Malawi’s Mighty Wanderers is far from over despite their 1-0 victory in the first leg.
Simba secured the narrow advantage in Malawi and will now host Mighty Wanderers in the return leg on September 13 at the Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Barker said the team was using the time before the decisive match to correct mistakes from the first leg and improve its performance.
Speaking during a training session at Mo Arena, the coach said Simba could not afford to relax after winning away from home.
“We are making adjustments in areas where we did not reach the level we wanted. We are continuing to prepare because this game is not over, so we have to put in more effort and remain highly focused,” Barker said.
He said both teams would be fighting for the same objective, making it important for Simba to maintain concentration and execute its plans effectively.
“We are preparing very seriously to make sure we achieve our objectives,” Barker said.
The return leg will determine which team advances to the next stage of the competition, with Simba needing to protect its advantage while securing a result that will see it progress.
The Malawians, meanwhile, will be looking to overturn the deficit and keep their Champions League campaign alive.
