A senior Somali government delegation is in Tanzania to learn from the country’s public service management systems and reforms, in a visit that could deepen cooperation between the two countries in public administration.
The delegation, led by Somalia’s Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister responsible for Public Service Affairs, Hirsi J. Ganni, was received on Thursday, August 28, 2026, by Minister of State in the President’s Office for Public Service Management and Good Governance, Ridhiwani Kikwete.
The meeting took place at the ministry’s offices in the Government City of Mtumba, Dodoma, where the delegation was briefed on Tanzania’s experience in managing the public service and implementing institutional reforms.
Mr Kikwete said the Somali officials were particularly interested in understanding how Tanzania has improved public service delivery, managed challenges affecting government employees and developed systems for overseeing the public workforce.
“They have come to learn how we have improved public service management, what we are doing and how we respond when challenges affecting public servants arise,” he said.
He said the delegation would also examine how Tanzania’s public service management systems operate, including mechanisms used to support employees and improve the efficiency of government institutions.
Mr Kikwete said the visit demonstrates the importance of sharing experiences among African countries as governments seek to strengthen public administration and improve services to citizens.
He said Tanzania welcomed the opportunity to share its experience with Somalia, noting that such exchanges could contribute to stronger bilateral relations.
During the visit, Somali officials and experts are also expected to visit the Office of the Prime Minister, where they will learn about government-citizen relations, employment and labour administration, workplace safety and pension management.
The delegation’s programme is expected to provide an opportunity for the two sides to exchange experiences on public service reforms and identify areas where Tanzania’s experience could be adapted to Somalia’s needs.
The visit comes as Tanzania continues to implement reforms aimed at improving public administration, strengthening public servants’ welfare and enhancing the efficiency of government institutions.
