Simba and Azam face crucial tests tomorrow as the NBC Premier League enters another decisive round, with both sides targeting maximum points at different venues.
Simba will host Geita Gold at Major General Isamuhyo Stadium in Dar es Salaam, while Azam will travel to Kagera to take on Kagera Sugar at Kaitaba Stadium.
For Simba, the encounter presents another opportunity to strengthen their position in the title race, but they will have to overcome a Geita Gold side that has made an encouraging start to the campaign.
Simba head coach Steve Barker said preparations for the match were progressing well despite injury concerns and the unavailability of several players through suspension.
The coach revealed that the club has been particularly affected by injuries in the full-back positions, while other players will also miss the match because of disciplinary bans.
“There are more players unavailable than we expected, but that is part of football. We have to deal with the situation and continue preparing for the game,” Barker said.
He said the additional day between their previous match and tomorrow’s fixture had provided the squad with valuable time to recover and regain their energy.
Barker expects a demanding contest against Geita Gold, who he believes have shown considerable attacking potential early in the season.
“They have shown that they can score goals, so it will be a challenging game. We are looking forward to it because it is a home match for us.
“We need to take the initiative early, control the game and maintain our performance levels in order to get the victory,” he said.
Simba midfielder Hussein Semfuko said the players understand the importance of the fixture and are determined to collect all three points.
“We have prepared well for the game and we know that we need three points. We will give everything and fight hard to make sure we get a positive result for the team,” Semfuko said.
He admitted that their previous match created pressure after Simba failed to convert some of the chances they created but said the technical bench had worked to address the shortcomings.
“The previous game is behind us. We now have to focus on the next match and make sure we get the three points,” he said.
However, Geita Gold coach Zuber Katwila believes his team can cause problems for Simba despite acknowledging the quality and experience within the hosts’ squad.
“We know Simba are a big team and are in good form. They have quality players who can change a game at any moment,” Katwila said.
He said his players had continued to improve and were ready to execute their game plan.
“We respect Simba for their quality, but we have also prepared well. Our job is to implement what we have worked on in training and make sure we get the result we want,” he said.
Katwila urged his players to maintain concentration, follow instructions and remain disciplined throughout the encounter.
“We are facing a very strong team, but we will go onto the pitch to fight and make sure we perform well,” he said.
With both sides determined to secure maximum points, tomorrow’s encounter is expected to provide a stern test of Simba’s ambitions and Geita Gold’s ability to compete against one of the league’s leading sides.
