Deputy Minister for Health Dr Florence Samizi has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to lead Tanzania’s delegation to the 76th Session of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Committee for Africa.
The meeting, scheduled for August 25 to 28, 2026, will bring together health ministers and senior officials from WHO member states in the African Region to deliberate on key health priorities and strategies for improving the wellbeing of populations across the continent.
Dr Samizi arrived in Addis Ababa on Saturday, August 22, ahead of the four-day meeting, where Tanzania is expected to play an active role in discussions and decisions on regional health matters.
The Tanzanian delegation was received at the Tanzania Embassy in Addis Ababa by Tanzania’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Mr Innocent Shiyo.
The meeting comes at a time when African countries are seeking stronger health systems capable of responding effectively to both longstanding and emerging health challenges.
Tanzania is expected to share its experiences and progress in strengthening the health sector, while also learning from other countries and exploring opportunities for greater cooperation in addressing common health challenges.
Through the meeting, Tanzania will contribute to discussions on regional health priorities and participate in shaping decisions aimed at improving healthcare delivery, strengthening health systems and advancing public health across the continent.
The WHO Regional Committee for Africa serves as a key platform for member states to review health developments, set regional priorities and agree on collective approaches to improving health outcomes.
Tanzania’s participation is therefore expected to provide an opportunity for the country to present its health sector achievements and priorities while contributing to regional efforts to build more resilient and accessible healthcare systems.
