Simba Queens open CAF Women’s Champions League campaign with victory

By Victoria Godfrey

Tanzania champions Simba Queens have made a promising start to their 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers campaign after securing a 2-0 victory over Burundi’s Top Girls Academy.

Simba Queens took the initiative early in the encounter and were rewarded when Aisha Mnunka broke the deadlock, giving the Tanzanian side a 1-0 lead.

Rida Kusamfura then doubled the advantage, putting Simba Queens in a commanding position as they continued to control the contest.

The Burundian side struggled to find a way back into the match, with Simba Queens maintaining their defensive discipline to preserve the two-goal cushion into the closing stages.

The result gives Simba Queens three important points and an encouraging platform as they pursue qualification for the final stage of the CAF Women’s Champions League.

The Tanzanian champions will now turn their attention to their second group-stage fixture against Kenya Police on August 24, with another positive result likely to strengthen their push for qualification.

Simba Queens will be aiming to maintain their momentum and build on their opening performance as the race for a place in the continental competition intensifies.
