Deputy Minister for Health Dr Florence Samizi is leading Tanzania’s delegation at the 76th session of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Committee for Africa, which opened in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Tuesday.
The four-day meeting, running from August 25 to 28, brings together health ministers, senior government officials and health experts from across Africa to discuss some of the continent’s most pressing health challenges.
Tanzania’s delegation includes the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary, Dr Grace Magembe, and other senior ministry officials.
The meeting is focusing on strengthening health systems, improving health security and expanding access to quality and equitable healthcare services across the continent.
For Tanzania, the meeting offers an opportunity to share its experience in the health sector while presenting national priorities and contributing to discussions that could shape regional health policies and interventions.
The forum comes as African countries continue to face the challenge of building resilient health systems capable of responding to disease outbreaks, improving access to essential services and addressing inequalities in healthcare.
Dr Samizi’s participation is therefore expected to give Tanzania a platform to influence regional discussions while learning from approaches being implemented by other African countries.
The 76th WHO Africa Regional Committee meeting is expected to conclude on August 28, with member states deliberating on key health priorities and measures to improve health outcomes across the continent.
