Ngome JWTZ have successfully defended their National Boxing Club Championship title after finishing top of the standings at the 2026 tournament held in Tanga.
Ngome claimed six gold medals to edge their traditional rivals MMJKT, who finished runners-up with five gold medals.
The victory saw Ngome retain the national club title they won in 2025, reaffirming their dominance in Tanzania’s competitive boxing scene.
Magereza finished third, while hosts Tanga secured fourth place in the tournament, which brought together 15 clubs from different parts of the country.
The championship provided a platform for some of the country’s leading boxers to compete for national honours while giving the technical team an opportunity to assess talent ahead of major international assignments.
Tanzania Boxing Federation (BFT) president Lukelo Willilo said the federation’s technical bench would conduct a detailed assessment of the boxers’ performances following the competition.
He said the exercise would be used to identify and strengthen the national team in preparation for a demanding international calendar.
“The technical team will assess the level of competition and the performance of the boxers with the aim of forming and strengthening the national team,” Mr Willilo said.
He said the assessment was particularly important as Tanzania prepares for the 2026 African Boxing Championships, which are scheduled to take place in Kinshasa.
Mr Willilo added that the preparations would also focus on the African and global qualifying tournaments for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, which will be held in 2027.
The national team will also be prepared for the 2027 African Games, making the national club championship an important starting point for identifying boxers capable of competing at the highest level.
With the tournament bringing together clubs from across the country, the competition also offered the federation an opportunity to gauge the depth of boxing talent available for future international assignments.
