The latest figures underline the continued importance of the mining sector to Tanzania's economy, particularly gold, which remains the country's leading mineral export and a major source of foreign exchange earnings.

Higher international prices have continued to boost revenues for miners, traders and the government through royalties and related taxes.

Mining stakeholders use the indicative prices published by the Mining Commission as a benchmark for transactions at mineral markets and buying centres across the country, helping to promote transparency and ensure miners receive prices that reflect prevailing international market conditions.
