The Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) pavilion has continued to attract large numbers of visitors at the ongoing East African Trade Fair at Furahisha Grounds in Mwanza, with members of the public showing keen interest in measurement education.
On the third day of the exhibition on August 30, 2026, visitors from different groups gathered at the WMA pavilion to learn about the importance of accurate measurements in everyday transactions and business activities.
Students and young people were particularly interested in demonstrations on the proper use of electronic weighing scales and fuel dispensing pumps.
Some said the knowledge would enable them to become ambassadors for fair measurements in their schools and homes, while others expressed interest in pursuing careers as weights and measures officers in the future.
Women entrepreneurs also took a keen interest in learning how to correctly use weighing scales commonly used in markets.
They also sought clarification on how consumers can determine the quantity of cooking gas in cylinders when purchasing the product.
The visitors commended WMA for providing practical knowledge that can help consumers avoid losses and ensure they receive the quantities of products they pay for.
Police officers and elderly visitors were also drawn to the pavilion, where they received education on measurements in the petroleum, cement and other construction-material sectors.
The police officers said the knowledge would help them during patrols and enforcement activities aimed at promoting fairness in commercial transactions.
The elderly visitors, meanwhile, said the education had given them new knowledge on how to protect their families from dishonest business practices involving inaccurate measurements.
Visitors to the WMA pavilion also praised the Government for establishing an institution responsible for ensuring accuracy in measurements, saying its work helps protect consumers' rights and promotes a fair business environment.
They said WMA's presence supports the objectives of the trade fair's theme: “Safety and Peace are Catalysts for Trade and Investment.”
