Minister for Health Mohamed Mchengerwa has arrived in Dar es Salaam to host the Fourth Meeting of the Regional Steering Committee of Health Ministers for the African region (ReSCO), which brings together health leaders from 14 African countries.
The two-day meeting, which starts today and ends tomorrow, August 19, 2026, is focusing on key health priorities, including reproductive, maternal, child and adolescent health and preparedness and response to disease outbreaks.
Mr Mchengerwa, who is the Vice-Chairperson of ReSCO, arrived at the meeting accompanied by the Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary, Dr Grace Magembe.
The meeting provides a platform for African health ministers and officials to review common health challenges and strengthen regional cooperation in addressing them.
A major focus of the discussions is improving access to quality reproductive, maternal, child and adolescent health services, areas that remain critical to reducing preventable deaths and improving health outcomes across the continent.
The ministers are also expected to deliberate on measures to strengthen countries’ preparedness to prevent, detect and respond to disease outbreaks, amid the need for greater regional coordination in tackling public health emergencies.
The Dar es Salaam meeting comes as African countries continue to emphasise stronger collaboration, information sharing and coordinated responses to health threats that can cross national borders.
The outcomes of the meeting are expected to help guide regional efforts to strengthen health systems and improve the delivery of essential health services across member states.
