JOWUTA to strengthen media ties with Oman journalists

The Tanzania Union of Journalists and Media Workers (JOWUTA) is set to host a four-member delegation from the Omani Journalists Association (OJA), in a move aimed at deepening professional ties and expanding cooperation between journalists in the two countries.

The delegation is expected to arrive in Tanzania today, Tuesday, August 18, 2026, before holding discussions with JOWUTA leaders tomorrow on areas of mutual interest, including professional development and journalist-to-journalist exchanges.

JOWUTA Secretary-General Selemani Msuya said the visit was significant as it would provide a platform for the two organisations to strengthen their institutional relationship and identify practical areas of cooperation.

He said a key focus of the discussions would be preparations for the proposed Oman–Tanzania Journalists Forum, which is expected to bring journalists from the two countries together to exchange ideas and experiences.

“The visit is important because it will strengthen the relationship between our two organisations and create opportunities for journalists from Tanzania and Oman to learn from one another,” Mr Msuya said.

He added that the two sides would explore journalist exchange programmes designed to enhance professional skills, promote knowledge sharing and expose media practitioners to different approaches to journalism.

Beyond the meetings with JOWUTA, the Omani delegation is expected to hold discussions with officials from the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism.

The delegation will later travel to Zanzibar as part of its programme, further broadening its engagement with stakeholders in Tanzania’s media and tourism sectors.

The visit highlights the potential for closer media cooperation between Tanzania and Oman, particularly through professional exchanges, joint forums and knowledge-sharing initiatives that can contribute to the development of journalism in both countries.
