Government opens second phase of TZS200 million youth grants

By The Respondents Reporter

The Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries has opened the second phase of applications for a TZS200 million youth empowerment programme, targeting young people seeking to establish or expand businesses in the livestock and fisheries sectors.

The initiative is being implemented in line with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s pledge to allocate TZS200 million to youth within 100 days of taking office, with the funds intended to support young people to develop sustainable businesses and create employment opportunities.

The ministry said the grants will be provided through productive equipment and inputs, enabling beneficiaries to invest in activities with potential to generate income across the livestock and fisheries value chains.

Eligible activities include cage fish farming, poultry production for eggs and meat, beekeeping, goat, sheep and cattle keeping, fishing boats and fishing equipment.

The programme will also support investments in cold-chain facilities for fisheries products, fish farming systems and fish-processing equipment, with the aim of improving production, storage, processing and access to markets.

The intervention is expected to give young people greater access to productive assets while encouraging them to move beyond small-scale production into value addition and commercially viable enterprises.

For beneficiaries, the programme offers an opportunity to turn livestock and fisheries activities into sustainable sources of income while contributing to employment creation and the growth of local value chains.

The ministry has invited eligible youth to obtain the application forms and guidelines and submit their applications before the deadline.

Applications must reach the Office of the Director of Fisheries by September 14, 2026.

Applicants seeking clarification have been advised to contact the ministry through 0737-476937.

The government has increasingly placed youth economic empowerment at the centre of efforts to expand employment and entrepreneurship opportunities, particularly in productive sectors capable of supporting household incomes and local economic activity.
