Chinese telecommunications technology company FiberHome has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Tanzania’s efforts to expand high-speed internet connectivity and accelerate the country’s digital transformation.
The company’s commitment comes as the Government steps up initiatives to increase access to affordable, reliable and high-quality internet services across the country.
Recently, Minister for Communication and Information Technology Angellah Kairuki launched the second phase of the “Fiber to Your Doorstep” project, implemented by the Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation (TTCL), as part of efforts to bring faster internet services closer to citizens.
Ms Kairuki said the initiative was central to the Government’s broader digital economy agenda, noting that reliable high-speed internet is increasingly important in enabling citizens to access education, employment, business opportunities, innovation and essential social and economic services.
Against this backdrop, FiberHome held a telecommunications technology workshop in Dar es Salaam as part of its global and African World Tour, showcasing emerging technologies and innovations shaping the future of connectivity.
The tour focuses on developments in telecommunications and the growing application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the sector.
The initiative has already been held in Morocco, Algeria and Kenya, with Ethiopia and South Africa among the countries expected to host subsequent engagements.
Speaking during the Dar es Salaam workshop, FiberHome Chief Technology Officer Michael Wang said the event was designed to share knowledge with industry stakeholders and demonstrate how rapidly telecommunications technology is evolving.
He said AI was increasingly becoming an important component of modern telecommunications, creating opportunities to improve network management, efficiency and customer services.
Mr Wang said the World Tour had generated considerable interest across Africa, citing discussions with the Algerian Government over the possibility of establishing a manufacturing plant for fibre-optic cables, including All-Dielectric Self-Supporting (ADSS) and Drop Cables, as well as related accessories.
He said FiberHome’s approach to the market was anchored on product quality and the ability to develop solutions tailored to the requirements of individual telecommunications operators.
“FiberHome manufactures its own fibre from the initial production stage through to the final cable,” Mr Wang said, explaining that the approach enables the company to respond to different technical requirements in the telecommunications market.
He added that the company sought to understand customers’ specific needs before developing solutions, rather than simply supplying standard products.
Mr Wang said FiberHome was currently engaging the Tanzanian market through its social media platforms but was preparing to establish an official presence in the country.
He said the company expected to open an office in Tanzania in the coming months, a move that would enable it to provide closer technical and commercial support to customers and industry partners.
The planned expansion comes at a time when Tanzania is increasing investment in digital infrastructure as internet connectivity becomes increasingly important to economic activity, public services and access to information.
The workshop brought together stakeholders from across the telecommunications industry, including representatives of Vodacom, Airtel, TTCL, government contractors and officials from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.
Participants welcomed FiberHome’s engagement with the Tanzanian market, saying exposure to emerging technologies and innovations could help strengthen the country’s telecommunications ecosystem.
The engagement also highlights the growing role of technology companies in supporting Tanzania’s efforts to modernise its digital infrastructure and expand access to reliable connectivity.
As the Government advances projects such as “Fiber to Your Doorstep”, collaboration between public institutions, telecommunications operators and technology providers is expected to remain important in ensuring that the benefits of digital transformation reach more citizens and businesses.
