Ruvuma Regional Police Commander Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Marco G. Chilya has directed officers deployed along the Tanzania-Mozambique border to strengthen vigilance, uphold professionalism and work closely with communities to protect lives and property.
SACP Chilya issued the directive during a visit to inspect police operations and assess the security situation in border areas, where officers are responsible for preventing crime and maintaining public safety.
The inspection focused on officers’ performance, security measures at the border and cooperation between police, local residents and other security agencies.
The commander urged officers to execute their duties in accordance with the law, police regulations and established procedures, stressing that discipline and integrity were essential to maintaining public confidence.
He also instructed the officers to remain alert to various forms of crime while ensuring that people living along the border can conduct their daily economic and social activities in a secure environment.
The visit also included officers involved in Operation Kambale, who briefed the commander on their activities and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining security in the area.
The officers assured SACP Chilya that they would continue carrying out their duties with professionalism, vigilance and cooperation with other security agencies and local communities.
The inspection underscores the importance of sustained security operations along Tanzania’s international borders, particularly in protecting communities, preventing crime and safeguarding the movement of people and legitimate economic activities.
For residents in border communities, effective policing remains critical not only to security but also to creating a stable environment for trade, livelihoods and other daily activities.
