Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) has clarified that a fare and video circulating on social media are linked to an incident involving musician Diamond Platnumz at Mwanza Airport in 2018, and do not relate to a recent event.
In a public notice issued on August 29, 2026, ATCL said the fare being shared online dates back to an incident that occurred on December 16, 2018.
The airline said the incident attracted media attention at the time, prompting ATCL to meet journalists on December 17, 2018, to provide clarification.
ATCL said video footage of the meeting remains available and provides the original context of the incident.
“ATCL wishes to emphasise that the fare and video currently circulating on social media do not relate to a recent incident. They concern an incident that occurred on December 16, 2018,” the airline said.
The clarification comes amid the growing circulation of old videos and other materials on social media, which can sometimes be presented without their original dates and context.
ATCL urged members of the public to verify the date, source and context of information before sharing or commenting on such content.
The airline warned that sharing old material as current information could create a misleading impression about events.
ATCL also reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe, reliable and quality air transport services.
The airline advised passengers seeking current information on fares and flights to rely on its official communication channels and authorised sales outlets.
