The Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) has intensified its outreach efforts to educate small-scale entrepreneurs on the proper use of measurements during the ongoing 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair, popularly known as SabaSaba, in Dar es Salaam.
On the eighth day of the exhibition, the agency continued with its strategic initiative of moving beyond its exhibition stand to directly engage with traders and service providers across the fairgrounds. The goal is to ensure that knowledge on accurate measurements and fair trade practices reaches as many stakeholders as possible, especially informal and small-scale businesses that form a significant part of the country’s economy.
WMA officials have been visiting different business stalls within the exhibition area, offering practical guidance on correct use of weighing instruments, measurement standards, and compliance requirements. The exercise is designed to help entrepreneurs avoid common mistakes that may lead to unfair trade practices, consumer complaints, or regulatory penalties.
In addition to field outreach, the agency is also providing services at its pavilion within the SabaSaba exhibition grounds, where visitors continue to receive hands-on education and clarifications on various metrology-related issues. Members of the public, traders, and other stakeholders have been taking advantage of the platform to better understand their rights and responsibilities when it comes to accurate measurement in business transactions.
According to WMA, the initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen consumer protection and promote fair competition in the market by ensuring that all commercial transactions are based on accurate and verified measurements. The agency emphasized that fair measurement practices not only protect buyers but also build trust and sustainability for businesses.
The outreach at SabaSaba has also been described as an important opportunity for awareness creation, particularly for young entrepreneurs and first-time business owners who may not be fully familiar with legal measurement standards. By bringing services closer to the people, WMA aims to reduce knowledge gaps and enhance voluntary compliance.
The activities at the exhibition continue to attract interest from a wide range of stakeholders, reflecting growing awareness of the importance of standard measurements in daily business operations.
The SabaSaba trade fair continues to serve as a key national platform for public institutions and private sector players to showcase services, share knowledge, and engage directly with citizens on matters that support economic growth and fair trade practices.
