DODOMA, July 5 – Tanzania's Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) has launched training for its risk management officers on a new government digital platform designed to strengthen institutional risk oversight and improve decision-making across public agencies.
The five-day programme is introducing participants to the Government Enterprises Risk Management System (GERMIS), a digital platform developed by the government to replace manual risk management processes with a centralized electronic system.
The training, being held at TARURA's RISE Project offices in the PSSSF building in Dodoma, is being facilitated by Adolfina Lugendo from the Office of the Government Chief Internal Auditor.
TARURA Risk Management Coordinator Ally Ismail said the new platform would enable risk management focal persons from the agency's departments and units to record and monitor institutional risks electronically.
He said departmental heads, who serve as risk owners, would be able to track identified risks and mitigation measures through the system while preparing reports in line with government risk management guidelines.
"The GERMIS platform will enable the Chief Executive Officer, as the agency's principal risk owner, as well as the Board, to receive timely information on institutional risks and take appropriate mitigation measures before they affect TARURA's operations," Ismail said.
He added that the system would help ensure risks are managed within acceptable tolerance levels, improving governance, accountability and operational efficiency across the agency.
The rollout of GERMIS forms part of the Tanzanian government's broader digital transformation agenda aimed at modernizing public administration and strengthening risk management practices across state institutions.
