UNDP calls for innovation, investment to drive Tanzania’s energy growth

Tanzania’s ambition to expand reliable and sustainable energy access requires stronger investment, innovation and adoption of modern technologies, a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) energy expert has said.

Speaking during the Energy Day Forum at the Mwandoro Hall, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Grounds – Sabasaba, Dar es Salaam, UNDP energy specialist Ms. Sayuni Mbwilo said collaboration among government, investors, experts and development partners remains crucial in unlocking the sector’s potential.

Ms. Mbwilo contributed to a high-level discussion on the future of the energy sector, highlighting the importance of technological solutions and innovative approaches in addressing energy challenges and creating new investment opportunities.

The Energy Day Forum has brought together key players in the energy industry, including policymakers, government officials, private sector representatives, researchers and development partners, to share experiences and discuss strategies for strengthening Tanzania’s energy landscape.

Discussions at the forum are focusing on how increased investment, partnerships and technological advancement can support expansion of energy services, improve efficiency and contribute to economic transformation.

The energy sector remains a key pillar in Tanzania’s development agenda, supporting industrial growth, job creation and improved quality of life through increased access to reliable power.
