Minister for Works Abdallah Ulega has begun a working tour of Ruvuma Region, where he is expected to unveil two strategic road projects aimed at improving regional connectivity, facilitating trade and accelerating economic growth.
Mr Ulega arrived in the region on Wednesday, July 1, and was received by Ruvuma Regional Commissioner Brigadier General Ahmed Abbas, alongside government officials and leaders of the ruling CCM party.
During the visit, the minister is expected to launch the rehabilitation of the 100-kilometre Songea–Lutukira Road, which will be upgraded to asphalt standard, as well as the construction of the 16-kilometre Songea Bypass, also to asphalt standard.
The projects are expected to ease the movement of people and goods within Ruvuma and neighbouring regions, reduce travel time and transport costs, and strengthen the region's role as an important trade and agricultural corridor.
The road investments form part of the government's ongoing infrastructure development programme, which seeks to improve the national road network, enhance access to markets and public services, and support Tanzania's broader economic development agenda.
