Tanzania and Angola have begun the Third Session of the Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) in Luanda, with officials from both countries reviewing progress on past agreements and identifying new areas of cooperation aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.

The two-day meeting, running from July 29 to 30, opened at the Senior Officials level and is being attended by Tanzania’s Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Said Shaib Mussa.

Delegates assessed the implementation of resolutions adopted during the second JPC session held in Zanzibar in 2024, while exploring fresh opportunities for collaboration in strategic sectors considered vital to the economic and social development of both countries.

Addressing the closing session of the Senior Officials meeting, Ambassador Mussa stressed the need for effective implementation of all agreements reached during the commission.

“The value of this commission will be measured by the extent to which the decisions and commitments made are translated into tangible outcomes for our people,” he said.

The JPC is expected to bolster cooperation in a range of areas, including diplomacy, defence and security, trade and investment, health, education, science, technology, innovation and social development.

The ministerial segment of the meeting is scheduled for July 30, when ministers from both countries will review recommendations from technical experts, adopt resolutions from the third session and outline a roadmap for implementing newly agreed areas of cooperation.

The commission remains one of the principal mechanisms through which Tanzania and Angola coordinate efforts to expand economic partnerships, strengthen political ties and advance shared development priorities.
