The Government of Tanzania is continuing to strengthen its digital transformation agenda by investing in the professional development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) experts through the Digital Tanzania Project.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Brian Kaduma, a Senior Communications Engineer at the Universal Communications Service Access Fund (UCSAF), says the advanced skills he acquired through a Master's degree in Robotics Engineering will help improve industrial productivity, enhance public service delivery, and inspire more young Tanzanians to pursue careers in technology.
Speaking in Dodoma, Kaduma said the knowledge gained through the programme will support several UCSAF initiatives, including the Girls in ICT programme, where he plans to introduce secondary school students to robotics and innovation through practical learning opportunities.
“Through UCSAF programmes such as Girls in ICT, I hope to expose young girls to Robotics at an early stage so they can develop an interest in technology and prepare themselves for careers in ICT, particularly in Robotics,” he said.
Kaduma noted that his studies in Robotics Engineering, undertaken through the Digital Tanzania Project, focused on the application of advanced technologies to improve industrial efficiency and increase value addition to Tanzanian products, helping them compete more effectively in international markets.
According to him, the Government's commitment to preparing public servants for emerging technologies is helping Tanzania build a workforce capable of responding to the demands of a rapidly evolving digital economy.
“The education I received in Robotics has equipped me with the knowledge to adapt to emerging technologies and perform my responsibilities more effectively than before,” he said.
He added that the programme enhanced his understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other digital technologies, enabling him to identify innovative solutions that can improve efficiency and accelerate service delivery across public institutions.
Kaduma also highlighted the benefits of studying in the United Kingdom, saying the experience exposed him to advanced technologies, modern educational systems, and diverse professional environments that broadened his perspective and strengthened his expertise.
Looking ahead, he said he hopes to pursue a PhD in Robotics and become a leading specialist in the field while continuing to mentor young people and share the knowledge gained through international training opportunities.
He stressed that UCSAF's mandate includes promoting digital literacy and expanding ICT usage among Tanzanians, making investments in human capital critical to achieving the country's digital transformation goals.
Kaduma thanked the Government, through the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, for creating opportunities that allow public servants to acquire advanced skills and contribute more effectively to national development.
He also called on development partners and other stakeholders to support similar initiatives for both government employees and ordinary citizens, arguing that wider access to digital skills will help improve livelihoods, create employment opportunities, and accelerate Tanzania's socio-economic growth.
The Digital Tanzania Project is part of broader government efforts to build a digitally skilled workforce capable of supporting innovation, expanding access to technology, and driving the country's transition towards a knowledge-based economy.
